Ok, se siete atterrati qui non vuole dire che abbiate probabilmente sentito di me da qualche parte, ma alla fine questo non è un problema.
Chi sono... beh, sono diverse cose allo stesso tempo, ma principalmente sono una "rogue spear" (termine mal traducibile in italiano, che indicava i soldati di ventura e in generale i mercenari... N.D.T.), un indipendente che lavora da solo o affiancando altri nomi.
Sono un designer grafico, un fotografo, un tecnico Cad 2D e 3D, un video maker, attore, consulente costumistico e scenico, e web designer.
Perchè ho un portfolio basato su una piattaforma gratuita, con un dominio di terzo livello?
Soldi? Naaah... non sono così straccione da non potermi nemmeno permettere un dominio "serio".
La risposta è semplice: perchè sono un anticonformista.
OGNI figura professionale ha un sito "serio", che porta i domini di terzo livello ad essere sottovalutati e visti come "non professionali", "poveri" o "inaffidabili".... e molte volte, navigando in un sito "serio", si vedono i peggiori orrori, prodotti dal "professionista". Complimenti, genio.
La verità è una: questo è un falso pensiero. Non è l'indirizzo del sito a fare la professionalità , ma il suo contenuto. L'ABITO NON FA IL MONACO: così ho preso la decisione di andare contro questo luogo comune dell'"indirizzo del sito", ed usare un dominio di terzo livello, per fare una selezione tra persone e negati.
E so che il mio anticonformismo a volte paga, altre invece no, ma non riesco a rinunciarci.

Why i have a portfolio based on a free platform, with a 3rd level domain?
Money? Naaah.. WTF, i'm not so poor to even not affording a "serious" domain.
The answer is simple: because i'm an anticonformist.
EVERY professional figure has a "serious" website, that brings the 3rd level domains to be seen as "not professional", "poor" or "unreliable"... and a lot of times, browsing a "serious" website, you can see the worst horrors, produced by the "professionist". Compliments, genius.
The truth is one: this is a false statement. It's not the website address that makes the professionality, but its content. THE WEAR DOESN'T MAKE THE MONK: so, i took the decision to protest against the common sense of the "web address", and use this 3rd level domain, to make a selection between persons and dummies. And i know that my anticonformism sometimes worths, some others not, but i cannot get rid of it.
You will discover another strange thing: often i don't use a 3000$ digital reflex, but "just" a compact one, and some times a tripod, purchased from a chinese road vendor.
A lot of "serious" photographers have ever disapproved, seeing me working such way: but is it really all junk?
I don't think so. It's the same application of the "no need for stinky domains" concept: the photo is in the professional's eye, so with a simple camera and a bit of photo correction i can do it without problems. This concept was teached me by my photography master, Carlos Batts, one of the most important art producers of the entire US west Coast, based in Los Angeles.

Unfortunately, Carlos died in the 2013, survived by his wife, Lilian, and his friends. He used the same model of compact camera that i use now, bought in a LA store under his supervision, and produced a long list of masterpieces. And, as he ever repeated, "beauty is in the watcher's eye".
So, in honor and memory to a my close friend and teacher, and also of the so much and so cool memories of the time spent with him in LA, one of the best periods of my life, i decided to keep this compact camera as my daily on-side work tool.
Another close friend is Nathan Carlisle: photographer, illustrator, artist and 3D producer, gave me important tips about the work i do.
Also his help and tutoring has proven invaluable, and Nathan himself demonstrated to be a close friend during all these years.
Obviously, a compact camera is just a "catch-the-moment" tool, when lacking a reflex: ready to shoot a sudden moment on a road, or a particular sight, but for a really professional work i cannot hope to get decent results with just a compact camera, so i use a good Canon EOS 700D, an excellent digital reflex.
(Oh... Well... Not so true. I managed to win the 2014 November page of the Inferno Cafè calendar, fighting against shots taken by professional cameras. Thank you Carlos.)
I decided for it following the tips of another friend and mentor: Lorenzo Fiore, one of the most present photographers of the Inferno Cafè.
"Uncle" Lorenzo, a nice and kind person, gave me much precious tips about shooting, helped me during the post-production phase of that famous calendar photo, and helped me when i had to choose a professional camera: all these things for a sincere sense of friendship and passion for photography.
Ok, that's who i am. So, a person will not stop to the first sight, and will visit this website, taking a serious look to my portfolio and professional skills.
A dummy will take a look to the domain, will think "Hmm no, this is not for me" and will search for another designer: well, it's even better.
Dummies are the worst payers, and don't work just for glory: it's a passion, that i try to bring at my best, but i must also live...
So, who you are? Take a decision, and then stay or go next. And remember: beauty is in the watcher's eye.
Scoprirete anche un'altra strana cosa: spesso non uso una reflex digitale da 3000$, ma "solo" una compatta, e a volte un treppiede comprato dai cinesi in strada.
Tanti fotografi "seri" hanno sempre storto il naso, a vedermi lavorare in questo modo: ma è veramente tutta spazzatura? Non credo proprio.
E' la stessa applicazione del concetto "nessun bisogno di un dominio spocchioso": la foto è nell'occhio del professionista, così con una semplice macchina ed un briciolo di correzione fotografica posso lavorare senza problemi. Questo concetto mi è stato trasmesso dal mio maestro di fotografia, Carlos Batts, uno tra i più importanti produttori artistici dell'intera West Coast americana, basato a Los Angeles. Sfortunatamente Carlos è morto nel 2013, lasciandosi dietro la moglie Lilian ed i suoi amici. Usava lo stesso modello di compatta che uso io, e che comprai in un negozio di Los Angeles sotto la sua supervisione. e col quale produsse una lunga serie di capolavori. E come mi ripeteva sempre, "la bellezza è nell'occhio di chi guarda".
Così, in onore e memoria di un mio caro amico ed insegnante, ed anche in memoria dei così tanti e così bei ricordi del periodo passato con lui a LA, uno dei più belli della mia vita, ho deciso di mantenere questa compatta come mio principale strumento di lavoro.
Un altro caro amico è Nathan Carlisle: fotografo, illustratore, artista e produttore 3D, mi ha dato importanti suggerimenti riguardanti il lavoro che faccio.
Anche il suo aiuto ed insegnamento si sono rivelati preziosissimi, e Nathan stesso si è dimostrato un caro amico durante tutti questi anni.
Ovviamente una compatta è solo uno strumento adatto a "cogliere l'attimo" per quando non ho una reflex a portata di mano: adatto a prendere un momento improvviso lungo la strada, o un'inquadratura particolare, ma per un lavoro realmente professionale non posso sperare di ottenere risultati decenti solo con una compatta, così uso una buona Canon EOS 700D, un'eccellente reflex digitale.
(Uh... Beh... Non è così vero. Sono riuscito a vincere la pagina di Novembre del calendario Inferno Cafè 2014, lottando contro scatti prodotti da macchine professionali. Grazie Carlos.)
Ho deciso per questo modello seguendo i consigli di un altro amico e maestro: Lorenzo Fiore, uno dei più presenti fotografi dell'Inferno Cafè.
"Zio" Lorenzo, una persona seria e gentile, mi ha dato molti preziosi consigli sulla fotografia, mi ha aiutato nella fase di postproduzione di quella famosa foto, e mi ha seguito quando ho dovuto scegliere la reflex professionale: tutto questo per un sincero senso di amicizia e passione per la fotografia.
Ok, questo sono io. Da qui, una persona non si fermerà al primo sguardo, e visiterà questo sito, dando un serio sguardo al mio portfolio ed alle mie capacità professionali. Invece un negato guarderà il dominio, penserà "Hmm no, questo non mi va" e cercherà un altro designer "più serio e affidabile": beh, è fin meglio.
I negati sono i peggiori clienti, e io non lavoro solo per la gloria: è una passione, per cui cerco di dare il meglio, ma devo anche viverci...
Quindi, chi sei? Prendi una decisione, e dopo rimani o passa al prossimo. E ricorda: la bellezza è nell'occhio di chi guarda.
